SIRC 2020 Falls Victim to Pandemic

The Singapore International Reinsurance Conference has become the latest major re/insurance event to announce it will be cancelled for 2020.

Organisers announced today that the 17th SIRC will now be held 12 months after the scheduled dates of 15-18 November this year.

The Chairman of the Singapore Reinsurers’ Association (SRA), Organiser of the SIRC, Marc Haushofer said, “We have come to this decision after much thought and after consulting with our many industry friends and leaders, being mindful of the responsibilities that the SIRC has as such a well-supported international reinsurance ‘rendezvous’. We shall certainly make sure that the 17th SIRC in 2021 will live up to everyone’s expectations.”

The statement from the organising committee said: “With the travel restrictions and social distancing measures being enforced to combat the resurgence of the COVID-19 outbreak in many parts of the world, the Organising Committee of the Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC) has agreed that it would be impossible to organise a live in-person networking conference of the same quality and on the same scale as what many in the industry have come to expect of the SIRC.

“After considering all possibilities and means of organising a safe reinsurance rendezvous for our legion of loyal followers, the final decision was taken at a virtual meeting of the Organising Committee on Monday 17 August. The 17th edition of the SIRC, which has over the years come to be recognised as one of the world’s largest and best networking and thought leadership events, will now be rescheduled to 15 – 18 November 2021. “

Instead organisers are planning a virtual event, tentatively branded “SIRC 2020 Re-Mind”. More details of the virtual event will be announced in mid-October.

Organisers said all delegate registrations as well as sponsorship and meeting facilities bookings for the 17th SIRC will be fully honoured for the rescheduled event in 2021.
